Answers:<\/strong>\u00a0Marek Gajda, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of The Software House, the highest-rated software development company from Poland in\u00a02020 according to\u00a0Clutch.<\/p>\n

How did you manage to\u00a0conduct a\u00a0survey throughout that many developers from all over the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u00a0have shared our knowledge and experience with the software development community for years. We\u00a0regularly publish articles on\u00a0software development and we\u00a0offer insightful commentaries on\u00a0conducting business in\u00a0the IT sector. This year, we\u2019ve already compiled and published the report on\u00a0microservices which are more and more popular these days but still controversial. Thanks to\u00a0all of that, we\u2019ve managed to\u00a0build a\u00a0network that willingly responds to\u00a0our invitations and takes part in\u00a0our research projects. Our State of Frontend survey was mostly promoted among development communities and in\u00a0a\u00a0large group of our business partners. It helped to\u00a0conduct a\u00a0successful survey with 4500 responses from the specialists coming from all over the world and to\u00a0get some insightful comments from reputable experts such as\u00a0Guillermo Rauch (CEO at\u00a0Vercel), Luca Mezzalira (VP of Architecture at\u00a0DAZN), Jessica Jordan (Developer Advocate at\u00a0.cult) or\u00a0Tim Netukens (Head of Next.js at\u00a0Vercel).<\/p>\n

What we\u00a0can learn from this frontend development report?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s an overview of the trends, innovations, the best solutions, and tools \u2014\u00a0the knowledge compendium for frontend developers and CTOs. It can help them evaluate and develop strategies for frontend development. You don\u2019t have to\u00a0look far. A\u00a0few years ago, such solutions as\u00a0Continuous Integration were reserved for the backend. However, frontend developers understood that they could use it too. Now, as\u00a0many as\u00a077% of the respondents declare to\u00a0use CI. Also, almost \u2153 of developers built a\u00a0Jamstack website recently, and most probably it will become more and more popular in\u00a0the following months (and, speaking of changes: we\u00a0now write \u201cJamstack\u201d rather than \u201cJAMstack\u201d).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What are the most important conclusions that can be\u00a0drawn from this report?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u00a0knew that React was the most popular framework, however, I\u00a0didn\u2019t expect more developers to\u00a0use it than Angular and Vue.js combined. It\u2019s a\u00a0clear forecast that React will still reign supreme in\u00a0the nearest future. Many developers indicated that they want to\u00a0learn Vue.js and Svelte. It can be\u00a0seen as\u00a0a\u00a0sign of Angular\u2019s twilight.<\/p>\n

The results regarding hosting are pretty interesting too. Developers use everything they can find on\u00a0the market. From DCs (data centers), through a\u00a0variety of cloud service providers, to\u00a0completely new solutions such as\u00a0Netlify or\u00a0Vercel. At\u00a0the same time, AWS is strengthening its position among cloud solutions. According to\u00a0the report, more developers use AWS (38.7%) than Google Cloud Platform (14.2%) and Microsoft Azure (11.5%) combined.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most surprising finding?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s pretty shocking how thin is the line between love and hate among frontend developers. For example, React + Redux stack, which was so popular recently, seems to\u00a0become a\u00a0thing of the past. As\u00a0many as\u00a034% of respondents think that Redux would virtually disappear within the next 3 years.<\/p>\n

Do\u00a0you plan to\u00a0compile any other reports of this kind in\u00a0the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n

For sure. We\u00a0just need to\u00a0decide on\u00a0a\u00a0subject as\u00a0it\u2019s certainly a\u00a0bottomless pit. Software development evolves really quickly. Looking at\u00a0the momentum with which new technologies are entering the reality around us and how they change our world, I\u00a0predict that this pace will only increase. That\u2019s why I\u00a0believe that any initiatives that can organize and constitute a\u00a0source of knowledge in\u00a0this area are necessary.<\/p>\n

The State of Frontend report showed not only what the situation in\u00a0terms of solutions or\u00a0tools is, but also how developers work. As\u00a0many as\u00a092% of the respondents declared to\u00a0be\u00a0part of a\u00a0bigger development team over the course of last year. Interestingly, QA specialists, i.e. software testers, were absent from such teams in\u00a0more than 50% of cases. This is important information for CTOs who want to\u00a0know how to\u00a0build and manage development teams in\u00a0the face of rapidly changing software development processes and tools.<\/p>\n

Therefore, perhaps the report shedding light on\u00a0human resources in\u00a0IT is another project that we\u00a0will try to\u00a0deal with. I\u00a0would also like to\u00a0repeat the frontend report next year to\u00a0be\u00a0able to\u00a0make a\u00a0comparison and illustrate how quickly the changes are actually taking place here.<\/p>\n
