We strongly believe that women play more and more significant roles in the widely understood industry. We strongly support this trend \u2014 diversification means the change of the optics \u2014 finally, women will not be treated as strangers in this business \u2014 now often perceived as man\u2019s world. That is why we have launched \u201eWomen can do IT\u201d, a project presenting female leaders, managers, experts, and specialists from the member companies of SoDA.<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-58e299f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"58e299f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p id=\"4009\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">We\u2019re talking with\u00a0<strong class=\"jx iz\">Katarzyna Taromir-Rebe\u015b\u00a0<\/strong>from Monterail, who, because of the COVID-19\u2019s outbreak, had to\u00a0close down the office a\u00a0week after promotion.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0453\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"jx iz\">What role do\u00a0you play in\u00a0your company?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"5258\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u2019m a\u00a0Chief Operational Officer (COO).<\/p>\n<p id=\"8c2e\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"jx iz\">What is your formal background and education? How did you end up in\u00a0IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"587a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0studied computer science and have a\u00a0pure development background. I\u00a0was a\u00a0software developer specialized in\u00a0Ruby on\u00a0Rails, who turned into a\u00a0Project Manager. Then I\u00a0was leading project managers. Next, I\u00a0managed resources, matching software developers with projects. Further down the road, I\u00a0was a\u00a0Head of Operations. In\u00a0March 2020 I\u00a0got my\u00a0dream promotion to\u00a0a\u00a0COO. Unfortunately, due to\u00a0the COVID-19 crisis, we\u00a0had to\u00a0close down our office and work entirely remotely. There\u2019s even an in-house joke about it \u2014\u00a0my\u00a0first serious act as\u00a0a\u00a0COO was to\u00a0close down the company (laughs).<\/p>\n<p id=\"e511\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"jx iz\">How does your typical month of work look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"bf47\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It\u2019s definitely not boring (laughs). A\u00a0large part of my\u00a0work is reacting to\u00a0current events. I\u00a0support our Head of Technology, Head of Project Management, and People team with tasks involving projects and our talents. And there\u2019s another part, involving strategy \u2014\u00a0I\u00a0have to\u00a0analyze our current position on\u00a0a\u00a0market and think about what we\u2019re doing next. With 30+ projects and over 100 people on\u00a0board, there\u2019s always something to\u00a0do.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5770\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"jx iz\">What is your biggest success in\u00a0the IT industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"0aac\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Definitely my\u00a0promotion to\u00a0the role of the COO. But even more important is our pandemic condition \u2014\u00a0we\u2019ve managed to\u00a0stay afloat and thrive. I\u00a0think that\u2019s something, given many companies went under because of the COVID-19\u2019 aftermath. The ship is still around and intact.<\/p>\n<p id=\"083a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"jx iz\">What is your biggest professional challenge?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"7cfa\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jv jw iy jx b jy jz ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Talking about COVID-19 again is very tempting but I\u00a0think the biggest professional challenge comes from daily responsibilities. As\u00a0a\u00a0COO I\u00a0have to\u00a0think on\u00a0a\u00a0different scale than before. It\u2019s a\u00a0constant pursuit of a\u00a0balance between business goals and delivery for the clients and creating a\u00a0friendly environment for our employees. Effective management is not about bringing fresh fruits to\u00a0work, but rather making sure that Monterail is a\u00a0safe and interesting place for everyone involved. I\u00a0believe that when people are happy, clients are happy. It\u2019s about personal growth \u2014\u00a0there\u2019s a\u00a0lot we\u00a0can do\u00a0to\u00a0make people want to\u00a0work with us. It goes beyond from junior to\u00a0senior. If someone wants to\u00a0take a\u00a0management road, as\u00a0I\u00a0did, he\u00a0needs to\u00a0have that opportunity. Changing course in\u00a0the middle of the road is possible \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s there\u2019s a\u00a0will, there\u2019s a\u00a0way. A\u00a0little bit of talent doesn\u2019t hurt but my\u00a0job is to\u00a0make sure it\u2019s possible. If someone makes a\u00a0decision about a\u00a0shift, then we\u00a0usually divide the work \u2014\u00a0half time in\u00a0software development, half-time in\u00a0design or\u00a0management, or\u00a0whatever. I\u00a0would say the goal is to\u00a0make myself fully comfortable in\u00a0my\u00a0current position. I\u00a0already went deep but the situation under COVID-19 requires a\u00a0focused approach. Once we\u2019re over the hump, I\u00a0can think about new challenges and directions. Sometimes I\u00a0wonder if my\u00a0shift towards management was right \u2014\u00a0I\u00a0miss my\u00a0development days.
