First, I\u00a0applied for a\u00a0sales-related position, but my\u00a0application was rejected. However, I\u00a0was determined and wrote back to\u00a0them that I\u00a0did not agree with their decision and that they should review my\u00a0test tasks again [laughs]. A\u00a0month later, they e-mailed me\u00a0that the CEO [Mateusz Kurleto] was looking for an assistant and that it would be\u00a0nice to\u00a0work together.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0159\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When it comes to\u00a0studies, my\u00a0story is varied here. First, I\u00a0completed bachelor\u2019s studies in\u00a0the field of \u2018International Relations\u2019 with the specialty of \u2018Media and Intercultural Communication\u2019 in\u00a0Gda\u0144sk. In\u00a0the last year of my\u00a0studies, I\u00a0went to\u00a0Italy as\u00a0part of the Erasmus program, and that\u2019s where I\u00a0finished my\u00a0last year. I\u00a0stayed in\u00a0Italy for another two years, doing my\u00a0master\u2019s degree at\u00a0the university in\u00a0Milan where I\u00a0graduated from \u2018Public and Business Communication\u2019 with the specialty of \u2018Marketing and Branding\u2019. Additionally, I\u00a0graduated from an American university in\u00a0the field of \u2018Business Psychology with Coaching\u2019. Then, I\u00a0also completed post-graduate studies in\u00a0\u2018Coaching and Talent Management\u2019 at\u00a0a\u00a0British university.<\/p>\n<p id=\"be81\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Anna:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0worked in\u00a0the fitness industry as\u00a0an instructor and consultant for seventeen years, I\u00a0ran classes and helped to\u00a0manage fitness clubs. At\u00a0some point, the excess of sports began to\u00a0negatively affect my\u00a0health. I\u00a0moved to\u00a0customer service at\u00a0an IT company, and then I\u00a0ended up in\u00a0a\u00a0startup.<\/p>\n<p id=\"568f\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0couldn\u2019t find any better. Working on\u00a0several positions with great responsibility allowed me\u00a0to\u00a0gain extensive experience in\u00a0a\u00a0short time. After that startup and working in\u00a0yet another company, I\u00a0needed new challenges. And this is how I\u00a0found myself in\u00a0Codibly. Initially as\u00a0an Office Manager, and after three months I\u00a0was promoted to\u00a0the position of Administration Lead &amp; Happiness Officer.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0198\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Ma\u0142gorzata:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0am\u00a0a\u00a0master of Polish philology and a\u00a0landscape architect engineer. I\u00a0was also doing a\u00a0PhD in\u00a0Polish philology which I\u00a0finished, but unfortunately I\u00a0never defended my\u00a0thesis. At\u00a0some point, I\u00a0just didn\u2019t care about it anymore [laughs].<\/p>\n<p id=\"dd78\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When I\u00a0studied at\u00a0the university, a\u00a0colleague sent me\u00a0an ad published by\u00a0SoftwareMill stating that they were looking for an executive assistant. I\u00a0sent my\u00a0CV. During the job interview, I\u00a0was given very general tasks, such as\u00a0settling a\u00a0delegation or\u00a0organizing a\u00a0meeting, we\u00a0also had a\u00a0conversation to\u00a0check my\u00a0command of English, and finally a\u00a0face-to-face meeting with two \u2014\u00a0out of four \u2014\u00a0company founders. Amazingly, I\u00a0got the job. They told me\u00a0that I\u00a0was the most interesting person because I\u00a0wrote in\u00a0my\u00a0CV that I\u00a0had been training karate for several years. They said I\u00a0was a\u00a0little crazy, so I\u00a0would fit right in\u00a0and that maybe I\u00a0will have enough strength to\u00a0handle the tasks if I\u00a0train karate[laughs].<\/p>\n<p id=\"98dc\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0worked as\u00a0an executive assistant for a\u00a0while, but it turned out that we\u00a0had more and more employees and more and more work. I\u00a0also gained experience, so a\u00a0lot of things were transferred to\u00a0me. So I\u00a0started to\u00a0create my\u00a0department, which right now employs 3 people.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ab93\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Paulina:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0didn\u2019t start my\u00a0career in\u00a0IT either. I\u00a0studied in\u00a0a\u00a0humanities field and was still trying my\u00a0hand at\u00a0a\u00a0technical university, but I\u00a0found that maybe it was not something for me. After graduation, I\u00a0was looking for a\u00a0job at\u00a0least somehow related to\u00a0the humanities, writing, and working with people, and finally \u2014\u00a06 years ago \u2014\u00a0I\u00a0got a\u00a0job in\u00a0administration. I\u00a0started working in\u00a0the secretary\u2019s office, but I\u00a0was promoted very quickly. I\u00a0came to\u00a0Spyrosoft because someone referred me\u00a0and the company began to\u00a0grow rapidly after my\u00a0arrival, what I\u00a0really like.<\/p>\n<p id=\"045a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">What do\u00a0you value most in\u00a0your current role?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"d3ae\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Ma\u0142gorzata:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0appreciate a\u00a0few things in\u00a0my\u00a0work, but I\u00a0think the most important is the full confidence that I\u00a0have at\u00a0the moment. I\u00a0am\u00a0also responsible for the contact with the customers from the moment the contract is signed. You can just go\u00a0anywhere with a\u00a0computer, nobody cares whether I\u00a0am\u00a0currently in\u00a0the fjords in\u00a0Norway or\u00a0sitting on\u00a0the beach in\u00a0Costa Rica. It\u2019s important that my\u00a0job is done. It also seemed to\u00a0me\u00a0that in\u00a0this completely remote mode these close relationships will start to\u00a0dissolve, but they do\u00a0not. Even new people get into it very quickly. I\u00a0can\u2019t imagine going back to\u00a0working from the office.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ea41\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Paulina:\u00a0<\/strong>What I\u00a0value most in\u00a0my\u00a0current role is my\u00a0independence in\u00a0terms of office organization, cooperation with service providers, and the administration department itself. At\u00a0the beginning of my\u00a0work, I\u00a0was given a\u00a0lot of trust when it came to\u00a0hiring new people and deciding about changes that I\u00a0wanted to\u00a0make regarding the functioning of the office. I\u00a0was able to\u00a0create an administration department practically from scratch.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0e7c\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Elizabeth:\u00a0<\/strong>When it comes to\u00a0my\u00a0current position, in\u00a0retrospect I\u00a0most value boss\u2019s trust and the space that not only me, but actually everyone has in\u00a0the company, according to\u00a0our principle of\u00a0<em class=\"le\">freedom &amp; responsibility<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"93de\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0would say that every day something new happens and there is not the same day. I\u00a0like this dynamic work environment. It gives me\u00a0the opportunity to\u00a0learn new things, develop in\u00a0a\u00a0new industry, and engage in\u00a0various projects, such as\u00a0the Startup Hansa. Owing to\u00a0that, I\u00a0get to\u00a0know the world of startups, not only in\u00a0Poland, but also abroad. I\u00a0have always worked on\u00a0the international market and I\u00a0am\u00a0glad that I\u00a0can continue it while being in\u00a0Poland.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2425\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Anna:\u00a0<\/strong>What I\u00a0appreciate the most is that I\u00a0can rely on\u00a0my\u00a0creativity every day. Working in\u00a0a\u00a0startup where my\u00a0tasks were at\u00a0the crossroads of many areas, I\u00a0could participate in\u00a0the improvement of many processes, and these ideas were taken into account by\u00a0my\u00a0boss. There is a\u00a0similar attitude at\u00a0Codibly. I\u00a0can take the initiative, talk to\u00a0management about it, and start acting on\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"be3f\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0also offer such space to\u00a0girls from my\u00a0department. I\u00a0avoid micromanagement. If your responsibility is to\u00a0make all the purchases, I\u00a0don\u2019t care where you order the item from. When I\u00a0arrive in\u00a0the office in\u00a0the morning, I\u00a0want us to\u00a0be\u00a0able to\u00a0drink good coffee without thinking about who is its supplier. This is what other employees expect, too.<\/p>\n<p id=\"83e0\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">There\u2019s been no\u00a0mishaps so far, I\u00a0have confidence in\u00a0my\u00a0team.<\/p>\n<p id=\"baa0\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Your greatest successes in\u00a0professional IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ab13\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Elizabeth:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0would say that each day, every little task completed successfully contributes to\u00a0the success of the whole organization. This administrative work is immeasurable sometimes. We\u00a0just make sure that our team\u2019s daily work is as\u00a0pleasant as\u00a0possible and each business trip is organized in\u00a0the best possible way.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5ec9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Anna:\u00a0<\/strong>If I\u00a0said that I\u00a0have already had my\u00a0greatest success in\u00a0IT, I\u00a0would have to\u00a0change the industry. I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t have motivation to\u00a0come to\u00a0the company every day. Work is not a\u00a0sport, there are no\u00a0championships or\u00a0spectacular successes here. There are daily duties that I\u00a0undertake more eagerly because I\u00a0see the meaning of my\u00a0work. I\u00a0can react on\u00a0a\u00a0regular basis and I\u00a0try to\u00a0act in\u00a0a\u00a0way that makes it easier for people to\u00a0work.<\/p>\n<p id=\"25dc\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I\u00a0regard is as\u00a0a\u00a0success that in\u00a0the difficult time of the pandemic and with the challenges of remote work, everyone in\u00a0the company sees that my\u00a0team, so far inseparable from the office, is needed and does a\u00a0great job. Our main task is to\u00a0ensure that everyone feels safe and that the entire team, although dispersed, functions as\u00a0one organism.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5f87\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Ma\u0142gorzata:\u00a0<\/strong>This is a\u00a0difficult question, but I\u00a0think my\u00a0success is that half of the company cried when I\u00a0recently went on\u00a0a\u00a0maternity leave [laughs]. It\u2019s very nice that when I\u00a0came back, on\u00a0the first Scrum, I\u00a0heard from a\u00a0new employee that he\u00a0had already heard about me. It was incredibly nice.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5c97\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Paulina:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0believe that it was a\u00a0great success for me\u00a0to\u00a0coordinate and open an office for 400 people in\u00a0a\u00a0new place and to\u00a0move employees from three locations practically in\u00a0one day. Of course, I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t have done it had it not been for the huge support of my\u00a0colleagues from the department and other people with whom I\u00a0worked at\u00a0the time. The process of arranging the new office itself took several months and everything that happened along the way was a\u00a0great challenge: project coordination, decisions, purchases, contracts with suppliers and many activities that ordinary employees were sometimes not even aware of. I\u00a0think back of it fondly and now I\u00a0miss that atmosphere a\u00a0bit [laughs].<\/p>\n<p id=\"de21\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">What surprised you most about working in\u00a0IT? What differs from popular opinion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"2d8c\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Elizabeth:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0have always associated the IT industry with nerds sitting in\u00a0front of computers all day, who have no\u00a0social skills [laughs]. When I\u00a0came to\u00a0work and started meeting the guys, who constitute about 80% of the staff, it quickly turned out that they had a\u00a0lot of interesting topics to\u00a0talk about.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a5dc\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Paulina:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0have a\u00a0lot of friends who work in\u00a0IT and who break the usual stereotype about IT specialists. Perhaps a\u00a0few years ago, the guys from the IT industry (because a\u00a0few years ago they were still mostly men) were in\u00a0fact quite eccentric, kind of dweebs. First of all, when I\u00a0came to\u00a0work, it turned out that almost all of my\u00a0colleagues had wives and children. This meant that they had had to\u00a0get out of this basement after all. I\u00a0also thought that programmers didn\u2019t know how to\u00a0have fun and we\u00a0would drink tea at\u00a0corporate events. I\u00a0was very surprised when at\u00a0the first event like this the CEO was swirling on\u00a0his back on\u00a0the floor [laughs].<\/p>\n<p id=\"4ef9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Honestly, I\u00a0expected administrative work to\u00a0be\u00a0just boring. But it is not \u2014\u00a0the regulations change all the time, and my\u00a0colleagues bring me\u00a0a\u00a0lot of joy when they make grave and always the same mistakes in\u00a0invoices [laughs].<\/p>\n<p id=\"439d\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Anna:\u00a0<\/strong>Again I\u00a0have to\u00a0mention the pandemic. It is a\u00a0bit of a\u00a0bitter reflection. We\u00a0live in\u00a0large cities, we\u00a0work in\u00a0the IT industry. Most likely, our companies did not feel the effects of the crisis. With that luxury, we\u00a0can\u2019t forget that real life isn\u2019t like that. We\u00a0work very comfortably, but the IT industry is only a\u00a0fraction of the professional reality in\u00a0Poland.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5c17\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">What else are you striving for? What are your career goals?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"0120\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Ma\u0142gorzata:\u00a0<\/strong>At\u00a0this point, my\u00a0role has changed a\u00a0bit. I\u00a0became a\u00a0coordinator, once a\u00a0week I\u00a0attend a\u00a0meeting of people responsible for various aspects of our organization. Together, we\u00a0wonder which direction SoftwareMill should go\u00a0and what business decisions we\u00a0should make. We\u00a0are also working on\u00a0the vision and mission of the entire company. Usually people from the administration department are not taken into account in\u00a0such processes and are not decision makers, and here you can say that I\u2019m in\u00a0such management board of the organization.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cf03\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Another thing is a\u00a0series of internal voice projection and content presentation trainings that I\u00a0will conduct in\u00a0the near future. I\u00a0hope they will help the other employees.<\/p>\n<p id=\"d6e9\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Elizabeth:\u00a0<\/strong>Every day I\u00a0get to\u00a0know the IT industry and the world of innovation better and better. I\u00a0also want to\u00a0refine our Wroc\u0142aw office, because due to\u00a0the pandemic, many of our activities have been stopped.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0152\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">What advice do\u00a0you have for people who would like to\u00a0work in\u00a0IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"d6cb\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Elizabeth:\u00a0<\/strong>From my\u00a0perspective, do\u00a0not be\u00a0afraid and be\u00a0open-minded, keep listening, and ask questions. This is an industry for creative people who like changes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7ede\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When it comes to\u00a0my\u00a0specific position, organizational skills are the priority, because sometimes you work on\u00a0one task and suddenly a\u00a0\u2018tsunami\u2019 comes in\u00a0[laughs]. So, you just have to\u00a0focus on\u00a0the most important task at\u00a0that specific time. Communication, confidentiality, networking, and the ability to\u00a0negotiate when you need to\u00a0win something for your people are the key. I\u00a0would also add a\u00a0sense of humor and distance to\u00a0what is happening.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e5e4\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Ania:\u00a0<\/strong>Working in\u00a0IT requires consistency and determination at\u00a0the start. Breaking through is the hardest thing in\u00a0this industry. If your dream job is not available to\u00a0you at\u00a0the moment, don\u2019t give up, go\u00a0somewhere else, gain experience and come back to\u00a0IT.<\/p>\n<p id=\"178d\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph kg kh jj ki b kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld ir ga\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"ki jk\">Paulina:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u00a0think it\u2019s important to\u00a0remain flexible and open, no\u00a0matter what position you start in.
