F<\/span><\/strong>or\u00a0one of its clients, MakoLab developed an advanced platform for creating comprehensive online car presentations online.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It supports the car sales process on\u00a0the Internet and is now being used by\u00a0companies both in\u00a0Poland and globally. Shortly after the launch of the platform, nearly half a\u00a0million photos of vehicles offered for sale online had been processed through it. Given the rapidly growing requirements concerning data collection and processing and, at\u00a0the same time, faced with the need to\u00a0ensure that the services provided are of the highest possible quality, the developers of the application decided to\u00a0transfer it to\u00a0the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. The implementation was carried out by\u00a0a\u00a0team of experts from MakoLab, a\u00a0certified Microsoft partner in\u00a0Poland.<\/p>\n

Features of the solution<\/strong><\/p>\n

The solution makes it possible to\u00a0prepare virtual presentations of vehicles online. Using the mobile application, people responsible for selling cars can put together a\u00a0professional presentation of a\u00a0vehicle, with a\u00a0360-degree view in\u00a0just a\u00a0few minutes. The advanced tool provides automatic photo import and creates a\u00a0ready-to-publish presentation by\u00a0drawing on\u00a0detailed data about a\u00a0given vehicle from the central Eurotax Glass database. Once ready, the offer can be\u00a0automatically exported to\u00a0dealers\u2019 websites or\u00a0car sales portals.<\/p>\n

The growing popularity of the solution and the interest expressed by\u00a0dealers encouraged the creators of the tool to\u00a0make a\u00a0further investment in\u00a0its development and move it to\u00a0the Microsoft Azure platform, in\u00a0other words, the Microsoft cloud solution that provides dedicated mechanisms for processing and storing large quantities of data.<\/p>\n

Platform migration to\u00a0Microsoft Azure. Significantly improved scalability<\/strong><\/p>\n

What were the reasons behind the decision to\u00a0transfer the platform to\u00a0Microsoft Azure?<\/p>\n

Bogus\u0142aw \u015awi\u0119cicki,\u00a0Head of Research & Development at\u00a0MakoLab, explains it like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision was primarily driven by\u00a0the rapidly growing needs to\u00a0increase server resources in\u00a0connection not only with the growing number of users and cars being presented, but also with the possibility of fast upscaling, depending on\u00a0the requirements at\u00a0a\u00a0given time. With that in\u00a0mind, we\u00a0recommended migrating the solution and came to\u00a0an agreement on\u00a0the type of support to\u00a0be\u00a0provided by\u00a0Microsoft. In\u00a0our shared opinion, based on\u00a0previous analysis, this was the best possible option for the solution, mainly on\u00a0account of the support provided by\u00a0an experienced Microsoft architect and the opportunity of making a\u00a0POC available to\u00a0our developers.<\/em><\/p>\n

The real use of resources. Challenges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The main challenge arising from the project\u2019s business conditions was the problem of estimating needs in\u00a0terms of performance and the disc resources needed by\u00a0clients in\u00a0order to\u00a0launch the current processes on\u00a0the platform. To\u00a0this end, we\u00a0implemented an\u00a0App Service Plan<\/strong>. Depending on\u00a0resource consumption, it is possible to\u00a0manage performance effectively and to\u00a0increase or\u00a0lower it extremely rapidly. It works particularly well for marketing campaigns and the ensuing increased user activity.<\/p>\n

With this platform, the vital element is the file storage mechanism,\u00a0Blob Storage<\/strong>, which is a\u00a0solution both economical and flexible. The space is theoretically unlimited, but the client only pays for what they use. In\u00a0addition, the easily upscaled SQL database facilitates clients\u2019 data storage and the maximum use of resources by\u00a0way of the\u00a0Elastics pool<\/strong>. The project also employs the\u00a0Cosmo DB<\/strong>\u00a0function to\u00a0store exported advertisements.<\/p>\n

Monitoring the availability of services\u00a0<\/em>and their proper operation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another critical challenge we\u00a0faced with the platform was monitoring the availability of services and the accuracy of their operations.\u00a0Azure Monitor<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Application Insight<\/strong>\u00a0mean that it is possible to\u00a0identify problems in\u00a0real time and immediately react to\u00a0any irregularities in\u00a0the operation of the application. Ensuring the security of services and the correct implementation of the platform is equally as\u00a0vital. The\u00a0Azure Advisor<\/strong>\u00a0recommendation service helps to\u00a0detect atypical requests and immediately informs the administrator when something occurs which is inconsistent with the applicable standards. This ensures the flash exposure of any gaps in\u00a0the system, which can then be\u00a0quickly diagnosed and repaired.<\/p>\n

Easy configuration and test environment management<\/strong><\/p>\n

The developers of the tools were faced with the necessity of using an independent SMTP server for mass mailing. The\u00a0Send Grid<\/strong>\u00a0function is perfect for configuring notifications from the system with information concerning queries about a\u00a0product.\u00a0Azure DevOps<\/strong>\u00a0makes it possible to\u00a0configure the code repository in\u00a0one place and rapidly build and publish new versions of the application. It also facilitates the management of production and testing environments and integration with other Microsoft tools, in\u00a0other words, Microsoft Teams, which means the team can immediately be\u00a0informed of changes or\u00a0emerging problems.<\/p>\n

Tailor-made functionalities<\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00a0Szymon Wojciechowski, the IT Project Manager leading platform development project at\u00a0MakoLab, explains:<\/p>\n

The use of Microsoft Azure\u2019s functionality has provided both more scalability and savings. On\u00a0the one hand, theoretically, the possibilities are unlimited, and on\u00a0the other hand, the fees are only calculated on\u00a0the basis of the resources that are called upon and used. In\u00a0the case of the platform, this could involve uploading more photos to\u00a0the system, for example, or\u00a0a\u00a0sudden increase in\u00a0the traffic on\u00a0pages, resulting in\u00a0the use of more server resources at\u00a0a\u00a0given moment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Microsoft Azure is also convenient for the developers responsible for the trouble-free operation of the application. Using the\u00a0Application Insights<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0service, the extensive system of logs and metrics facilitates effective and efficient checking as\u00a0to\u00a0which requests are not working and not only as\u00a0to\u00a0how many tasks have been completed, but also at\u00a0what time. Keeping track of the application\u2019s operations provides the capability of reacting fast and preventing crises. At\u00a0the same time, the smaller fragmentation of the code makes it easier to\u00a0introduce someone new to\u00a0the project.<\/p>\n

Data from the application are stored in\u00a0a\u00a0warehouse using LRS (Local Redundant Storage technology). The system is based on\u00a0three copies of the data held within one data centre. In\u00a0other words, they are stored on\u00a0three independent discs, which also affects the security criteria. In\u00a0addition, thanks to\u00a0the\u00a0Soft delete<\/strong>\u00a0function, it is possible to\u00a0recover a\u00a0deleted file over a\u00a0period of 7 to\u00a0365 days. The ability to\u00a0restore previous versions of the settings is another noteworthy aspect, as\u00a0is the rapidity with which a\u00a0test environment can be\u00a0set up; it can be\u00a0created by\u00a0a\u00a0developer in\u00a0just a\u00a0few minutes. This is particularly important when new features and improvements are continually being introduced into the tool, which is a\u00a0precise description of the platform\u2019s current stage of development.<\/p>\n

The efficient migration to\u00a0the Microsoft Azure platform was possible thanks to\u00a0the partnership between MakoLab and Microsoft and to\u00a0their exchange of experience. Combining the knowledge and technology of both made it possible to\u00a0meet user expectations and, as\u00a0a\u00a0result, to\u00a0ensure the highest possible quality of services for end customers starting the process of buying a\u00a0car on\u00a0the Internet.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
